The Advantages and Applications of 5-Axis CNC Machining Services

PRECISION MULTI-AXIS MACHINING SOLUTIONS FOR COMPLEX COMPONENTS AND ASSEMBLIES

Traditionally, CNC machining systems were generally restricted to 3-axis operations. Even in the modern machining industry, 3-axis machines are still used in many applications. After all, they are almost always cheaper and simpler than their 5-axis counterparts. Moreover, 3-axis machining capabilities can easily tackle a wide range of product applications.

However, some custom-machined components and complex assemblies feature difficult-to-produce geometries which require 5-axis CNC machining services. These advanced production systems are capable of performing machining operations in the X, Y, and Z planes, as well as two additional rotary axes.

At J&E Companies, we employ some of the industry’s latest and most capable multi-axis CNC workstations to accommodate even the most challenging of precision industrial fabrication projects..

THE BENEFITS OF 5-AXIS CNC MACHINING SERVICES

Complex Components with Difficult-to-Machine Geometries

With the ability to precisely move and position the tooling in two additional rotary axes, 5-axis CNC machines can produce part shapes and geometries of higher complexity without removing or repositioning the workpiece.

Repeatability and Relational Accuracy

Removing the workpiece or retooling makes it extremely difficult to precisely reposition everything before the next machining cycle is performed. 5-axis workstations can remove the potential for inaccuracies that result from multiple repositioning setups, thus ensuring a higher degree of precision and repeatability across products. Our facilities are capable of working with a wide range of sheet metal material gauges sizes – from 26 GA to .5”. We can process a maximum panel size of 60.0” width by 144.0″ length, giving you the design freedom you require for your custom industrial sheet metal components and assemblies.

Our Automated Panel Bending System

At J&E, we utilize the cutting-edge Salvagnini P2lean automated panel bender system. We have found this technology to offer the increased productivity and tooling flexibility that many of our clients’ custom sheet metal fabrication projects require. Some standout features of the P2lean system include automatic panel bending and handling cycles, as well as the system’s universal bending tool compatibility.

Controlled by Salvagnini’s full-featured MAC2.0 software system, J&E’s CNC panel bending machine automatically adapts to changes in material thickness as bends are performed. This ensures precise bends with close tolerances as well as an extremely high degree repeatability from one product to the next.

Simpler Setup Operations

Capable of machining virtually the entire surface of any workpiece, 5-axis machines are easier to set up the workpiece, and simpler fixtures can be used. Get in touch to discover all of the advantages of J&E’s superior metal working services.
